Trees survive the cold winter and sprout in the spring. And it bears fruit after overcoming the hot summer. Cornus officinalis brings out beautiful ruby-like fruits around the time of frost.
나무는 추운 겨울을 이겨내고 봄에 싹을 틔운다. 그리고 더운 여름을 이겨내고 열매를 맺는다. 산수유는 그렇게 서리가 내릴 즈음 루비같은 아름다운 열매를 내놓는다.

산수유와 여인이 함께 있을 때, 주제는 여인이어야 할까, 산수유이어야 할까? 무척 고민이 된다. 하지만 무모함은 피해야 한다. 여인에 대한 글을 잘못썼다간 여기저기서 날아오는 돌에 맞아 죽을지도 모른다. 솔직히 아주 오래 살고 싶어서 비겁하게 구는 건 아니다. 하지만, 그건 정말 위험천만하다.

하지만 이 말은 꼭 해야겠다. 사람은 꽃보다, 보석보다 아름답다. “꽃보다 사람이 아름답다”는 농담같고 진부한 표현이 있지만, 그건 정말 사실이다. 그런 의미에서 가수 안치환은 “사람이 꽃보다 아름다워”라는 노래를 통해 우리에게 말한다.

From downtown Icheon, Gyeonggi-do, head towards Ipo Bridge in the direction of Yeoju, and reach Hyeonbang-ri. On the left side of the road, you will see a temple signpost called Yeongwonsa. As you head toward Yeongwonsa Temple, which is located under Wonjeoksan Mountain (563.5m), the highest point in Icheon, you will see a large colony of *Cornus officinalis trees.

경기도 이천 시내에서 여주 방면 이포대교를 향하다 현방리에 이르면 도로 왼쪽으로 영원사라는 사찰 이정표를 만날 수 있다. 이천에서 가장 높은 원적산(563.5m) 아래 자리한 영원사를 향해 가다보면 대규모 산수유 나무 군락지가 나타난다.
Sansuyu Village is famous in Gurye, Jeollanam-do, but travelers are surprised to learn that there is a Sansuyu Village in Icheon, Gyeonggi-do. Cornus officinalis dyes the surrounding landscape yellow in spring,and in autumn, each tree is full of ruby-red fruits of ripe cornelian fruit.
산수유 마을은 전남 구례가 유명하지만, 경기도 이천에도 산수유 마을이 있다는 사실에 여행자들은 깜짝 놀란다. 산수유는 봄에는 주변 풍경을 노란색으로 물들이고, 가을에는 나무마다 루비처럼 빨갛게 익은 산수유 열매가 가득하다.
Cornus officinalis usually starts to bloom from the end of March and reaches its peak around April 10th. And in late autumn, cornelian fruits are harvested from early November to early December when frost falls. Cornus officinalis is mainly used as herbal medicine after removing seeds and drying.
산수유는 대개 3월 말부터 꽃이 피기 시작하여 4월 10일 전후로 절정을 이룬다. 그리고 늦가을, 전통적으로 서리가 내리는 11월 초부터 12월 초까지 산수유 열매를 수확한다. 산수유는 주로 씨를 빼내 말린 뒤 한약재로 쓰인다.

이천시 산수유꽃 축제가 개막되면 전국에서 사진 애호가나 아마추어 화가들이 대거 몰려 그 아름다운 풍경을 카메라와 스케치북에 담기 바쁘다.
Sansuyu here is said to be well over 100 years old. The entire village of Dorip-ri forms a cornelian colony, so in spring, the entire village is enchanted. For those living in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do, I recommend Sansuyu Village in Baeksa-myeon, Icheon-si, rather than Gurye, which is relatively far away.
이곳의 산수유는 그 수령이 족히 1백년이 넘는 것으로 알려졌다. 도립리는 마을 전체가 산수유 군락지를 형성하고 있어 봄이 되면 마을 일대에 황홀경이 연출된다. 서울 및 경기 일대에 사시는 분들은 비교적 먼 구례보다는 이천시 백사면 산수유 마을을 추천한다. @kyunga
