매화(Maehwa 梅花) = Plum Blossom
Gwangyang Maehwa Village has long been famous as a good place to view flowers in Jeollanam-do, South Korea. The annual Plum Blossom Festival is particularly famous, attracting many people from all over the country.
Gwangyang Maehwa Festival has not been held for three years due to Corona19, but when the plum blossoms are in full bloom, Gwangyang Plum Blossom Village is still crowded with people.
The flowering period for plum blossoms is from March 10 to 30. The best time to enjoy it is from March 15th to 20th, and you can see plum blossoms in full bloom all over the town. This year, the flowering time was delayed by two weeks compared to the previous year.
It is said that 1.34 million people visited this place in 2019, generating a whopping 43.9 billion won in economic effect. However, it is unfortunate that the festival has already been canceled for three years.
In Gwangyang Maehwa Village, the plum trees spread out toward the mountain are spectacular, and the scenery overlooking the Seomjin River is wonderful.

동화같은 신비로운 매화 마을
광양 매화 마을은 예전부터 전라남도에서 꽃구경하기 좋은곳으로 유명하다. 매년 열리는 매화 축제는 특히 유명해서 전국에서 많은 사람들이 몰려온다.
매화 꽃 개화시기는 3월 10일부터 30일 사이이다. 절정기로 감상할수 있는 시기는 3월 15일에서 20일로 온 동네에 만개한 매화꽃을 볼 수 있다. 올해는 예년에 비해 2주정도 꽃피는 시기가 늦었다.
코로나19로 인해 3년 동안 매화 축제는 열리지 않았지만, 매화가 만발할 때면 광양 매화 마을은 여전히 많은 인파로 붐빈다.
2019년도에는 134만 명이 이곳을 찾아 무려 439억원의 경제 효과를 냈다고 한다. 하지만 벌써 3년째 축제가 취소되어 정말 안타깝다.
광양 매화 마을은 산을 향해 뻗어 있는 매화나무 군락이 장관이며, 섬진강이 내려다보이는 풍경도 일품이다. 매화 절정기에 이곳 여행을 추천한다. ©경아
