Korean Palace Colors Find New Life in Silk
SEOUL CREAM DESK
Kyeong Hee Jeong has won the Bronze A’ Design Award in the Textile, Fabric, Textures, Patterns and Cloth Design category for Dancheong, a silk scarf collection that transforms the visual heritage of Korea’s Gyeongbokgung Palace into contemporary fashion.
Dancheong refers to the elaborate colors and patterns traditionally painted on Korean palaces and temples. Rather than reproducing those historic decorations, Jeong reconstructed their lotus motifs and symbolic colors through the changing light of Seoul’s four seasons.
The collection consists of four patterns inspired by spring flowers, summer radiance, autumn stillness, and winter majesty. Traditional colors appear as stained-glass light and aurora-like gradients, creating a softer visual language suited to modern styling and the identity of the Cattleya brand.
Each 600-by-600-millimeter scarf is made from premium silk twill. High-resolution digital textile printing captures the geometric details and subtle color transitions, while skilled artisans finish the edges by hand. Styled around the neck or head, or tied to a bag, the fabric reveals different layers as it folds and moves.
Jeong also directed the project’s broader branding, connecting Korean heritage with Cattleya’s vision of classic beauty.
A gold-accented hard case, a ribbon bearing the words “You are beautiful,” and a certificate of authenticity extend the design experience beyond the scarf itself.
Jeong’s win was first announced online on April 23, 2026. Jeong later received her trophy at Gala Night–La Notte Premio A’, held July 16 at Teatro Sociale in Como, Italy. Dancheong was also presented at the award’s MOOD exhibition, with its online display remaining accessible.
Developed in Seoul from March to August 2025, the project suggests that cultural heritage gains new relevance through reinterpretation rather than repetition. By turning palace decoration into wearable light, Jeong carries centuries of Korean aesthetics into contemporary life—and introduces them to a wider international audience.
SEOUL CREAM DESK
A’(Gala Night–La Notte Premio A’)’에서 트로피를 받았다.
