The Unfolded: A One-Page Newspaper (Vol. 453) — The Global Court

EP.19 — The Global Court

Geneva | May 6, 2045

Today, the world’s first Global AI Court officially began accepting cases.

The institution was created through a treaty signed by 112 nations after years of disputes involving cybercrime, cross-border fraud, digital identity theft, autonomous weapons, and artificial intelligence. Governments concluded that many modern crimes no longer belonged to a single country. Justice, they argued, had become global.

Unlike traditional international tribunals, the Global AI Court operates continuously through a shared judicial intelligence network. Every participating nation contributes legal precedents, treaty obligations, and constitutional principles to a common reasoning system designed to identify areas of agreement while respecting national differences.

Its first ruling involved a financial fraud network operating simultaneously across fourteen countries. The judgment was translated into forty-three languages within seconds and automatically recognized by every member state. Officials called it the fastest multinational legal decision in history.

Supporters believe the system finally matches the borderless nature of the digital age. Criminal organizations move money, data, and identities across continents in seconds. They argue that justice must travel just as quickly.

Critics remain cautious. They ask who ultimately controls the intelligence that interprets the law. If one algorithm becomes the highest legal authority across much of the world, a technical error, political influence, or hidden bias could affect millions of people at once.

As the courtroom lights illuminated a world map instead of a national flag, one question echoed across every continent: when justice belongs to everyone, who is responsible when it fails?
