4월 29일, 재외동포재단 정광일 사업 이사가 워싱턴 알렉산드리아에 위치한 “재미한국학교협의회(NAKS)” 사무실을 방문하여 임원진과의 만남을 가졌다. 코리안 커뮤니티센타 4층에 위치한 사무실은 지난 42년 간의 한국학교 역사를 한 눈에 볼 수 있도록 한글 교육에 관한 각종 자료들로 꽉 채워져 있다.
정광일 사업이사는 한글 티셔츠 1천 장을 주미 뷰티서플라이총연합회로부터 기증 약속을 받아 이번 7월 20일~22일, 샌프란시스코에서 개최되는 “41회 재미한국학교협의회 학술대회” 참가자 모두에게 기증(선물)할 수 있게 되었다는 기쁜 소식을 전해주었다.
정 이사는 이번 기증될 한글 티셔츠는 재외동포사회 한글 교육을 지원하기 위해 아시아 한인회총연합회(회장 윤희)가 디자인을 공모해서 제작한 한글 티셔츠로써 NAKS(총회장 추성희)에 전달하게 되어 더욱 기쁘다고 덧붙였다.
추성희 총회장은 “예상치 못한 큰 선물을 받게 되어 무척 기쁘며 이런 기증은 재미한인후세대들에게 한국어 교육을 통한 정체성 교육에 헌신하고 계시는 많은 선생님들에 대한 한인 지역사회의 격려와 지지를 나타내는 것이기에 참으로 의미 있는 선물이며 고무적”이라고 밝혔다.
A Generous Donation to the NAKS, the Birthplace of Education on the Identity of the Next Generation of Korean Americans
On April 29th, Jeong Kwang-il, the business director of the Overseas Korean Foundation, visited the office of the National Association for Korean Schools (NAKS) located in Alexandria, Washington, D.C. where he had a meeting with the executives. The office, located on the 4th floor of the Korean Community Center, is filled with various materials related to Korean language education, allowing visitors to get a glimpse of the 42-year history of Korean schools.
During the meeting, Jeong Kwang-il, the director of the business, said that he received a donation promise from the Beauty Supply Alliance in the United States, for 1,000 Korean t-shirts. He will be able to donate (gift) them to all the participants of the 41st Annual Conference of the Korean-American Educational Association, which will be held in San Francisco from July 20th to 22nd
Jeong explained that the T-shirts to be donated were designed by the Asian American Korean Association (President Yoon Hee) to support Korean language education for overseas Koreans. He expressed his joy at being able to deliver them to NAKS (President Chu Seong-hui).
President Chu Seong-hui expressed his happiness at receiving such an unexpected gift, saying that the donation was a meaningful gift that showed the encouragement and support of the Korean community for the teachers who were dedicating themselves to Korean language education and identity education for the future generations of Korean-Americans.
