세계 최고 금속활자본 직지(JIKJI)가 50년 만에 프랑스에서 공개되는 이때에, 재미한국학교협의회는 “《직지》 어떻게 가르쳐야 할까?” 라는 주제로 재미한국학교 교사 대상 비대면 강의를 4월 22일에 개최하였다.
이날 강의는 북가주협의회 다솜한국학교 교장인 최미영 직지 홍보대사가 강연하였으며, 추성희 NAKS 총회장, 임원 및 50여명의 북미지역 한국학교 교사들이 참여하였다. 최미영 강사는 이번 강의를 통해 역사문화 속의 직지를 학생들에게 쉽게 재미있게 배울 수 있는 방법들을 소개하고, 교육 현장에서 활용할 수 있는 많은 직지 교육자료들을 공유하였다.
재미한국학교협의회는 청주시 청주 고인쇄박물관 후원으로 《금속활자 발명국 ′한국 – 직지를 알자!》 사업을 수 년간 진행해 왔으며, 매년 북미 지역에 직지를 알리는데 앞장서고 있다.
2023년 직지교육 우수체험프로그램 공모전 진행
특히 올해는 직지 교육 우수체험프로그램 공모전을 개최하여, 우수한 직지 프로그램을 발굴하는데에도 힘쓰고 있다. 수상작은 이번 7월 20일 샌프란시스코에서 3일간 열리는 제41회 재미한국학교협의회 학술대회에서 시상하며, 수상자는 학술대회 기간동안 직지교육 프로그램을 발표하는 기회를 얻게 된다.
NAKS hosts online Jikji education courses sponsored by Cheongju Early Printing Museum
At the time when the world’s oldest metal movable type book, the Jikji, was unveiled in France for the first time in 50 years, The National Association for Korean Schools(NAKS) in the USA held a virtual lecture for Korean language teachers on April 22nd titled “How should we teach Jikji?”
On this day, Choi Mi-young, the principal of Dasom Korean School in the North California Association, gave a lecture as a promotional ambassador for the JIKJI, and was attended by Choo Sung-hee, the president of NAKS, executives, and more than 50 Korean school teachers in North America. Through this lecture, lecturer Choi Mi-young introduced ways for students to easily and interestingly learn the JIKJI in historical and cultural contexts, and shared many educational materials on the JIKJI that can be utilized in educational settings.
NAKS has been carrying out the project ‘Let’s Know About Moveable Type Printing – Korea, the Country of Invention of Metal Type’ for several years with the support of Cheongju City and Cheongju Early Printing Museum, and is taking the lead in promoting movable type printing in North America every year.
Especially this year, they are making efforts to discover excellent JIKJI programs by holding a competition for outstanding JIKJI education experience programs. The winning works will be awarded at the 41st NAKS Academic Conference, which will be held for three days in San Francisco on July 20th of this year. The winners will have the opportunity to present their JIKJI education program during the conference.
