최근 6명이 목숨을 잃은 테네시주에서 발생한 총기 난사 사건에 이어 또 다시 무거운 마음으로 소식을 전합니다. 지난달 27일 멕시코의 시우다드 후아레스 이민자 수용소에서 최소 39명의 목숨을 앗아간 끔찍한 화재 사건이 발생했습니다.
멕시코 이민자 수용소 화재 참사
We bring you sad news once again, following the recent gun shooting incident in Tennessee that claimed the lives of six people. Last month on the 27th, a devastating fire broke out in a migrant detention center in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, taking the lives of at least 39 people.
이와 관련해 민권센터가 함께 활동하는 전국 이민자 권익단체 ‘미주한인봉사교육단체협의회 (NAKASEC)’의 입장을 밝힙니다.
In relation to this, the National Korean American Service & Education Consortium (NAKASEC), a nationwide immigrant rights organization working closely with the MinKwon center, has announced our position on the matter.
“피해자와 생존자들께 심심한 위로의 마음을 전합니다. 이렇게 충분히 예방이 가능한 비극을 겪으면서 우리는 커뮤니티 구성원들과 함께 슬퍼하고 애도하며 여러분 스스로도 서로를 보듬는 시간을 갖기를 바랍니다.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the victims and survivors. As we go through this tragedy that could have been prevented, we mourn and grieve together with our community members, and we hope that they also take the time to comfort each other.
이 사건은 사람의 목숨을 소중히 여기지 않고, 우선 순위에 두지 않는 미국의 비인간적인 이민/난민 정책의 직접적 결과입니다.
This incident is a direct result of the inhumane immigration/refugee policies of the United States that do not value human life and do not prioritize it.
난민 신청 권리는 미국법과 국제법으로 보호되고 성문화되어 있는 기본권입니다. 분명히 말합니다. 미 의회와 백악관은 이러한 죽음에 고의적으로 연루되어 있는 완전한 공범입니다.
The right to apply for asylum is a fundamental right protected and enshrined in both U.S. and international law. Let us be clear: the U.S. Congress and the White House are complicit in these deaths, as they are deliberately involved in this through their inaction
인도적인 이민 제도를 만드는 것을 계속해서 거부한 직접적인 결과이기 때문입니다. 우리는 지금 당장 이민법을 새로 고쳐야 합니다. 선출직 공직자들이 해결책을 만들고 미래의 비극을 예방하기 전에 얼마나 더 많은 사람들이 죽어야 합니까? 지금이 바로 우리가 마음을 모아 행동을 요구할 때입니다.”
This is a direct result of continuously refusing to create a humanitarian immigration system. We need to reform our immigration laws immediately. How many more people have to die before elected officials come up with a solution and prevent future tragedies? Now is the time for us to come together and demand action.
