Washington, D.C. — This week, President Joseph R. Biden and First Lady Jill Biden will host President Yoon Suk Yeol and First Lady Kim Keon Hee of the Republic of Korea for a State Visit, the highest official visit of a foreign leader to the United States. The visit is welcomed by the Korean American community across the country as it celebrates the 70th anniversary of the U.S. – Korea bilateral alliance.
“President Yoon’s State Visit represents a critical reaffirmation of the 70-year alliance and relationship between the United States and the Republic of Korea,” said Abraham Kim, Executive Director of the Council of Korean Americans (CKA). “It demonstrates the deep and continuing ties between our two countries and our people.”
“The upcoming Biden-Yoon Summit is especially important for the Korean American community, who have been vital in building and maintaining bridges between the two countries. Over the past decades, Korean Americans and CKA members have been at the forefront of deepening economic, cultural, political, and security relations between the two nations based on our shared values and history. We look forward to this head of State Visit ushering a new era of deepening ties and support between the people, innovators, and leaders of both countries.”
President Yoon’s meetings in Washington, DC will be the first State Visit by a Korean president since 2011. His schedule will include a Bilateral Summit with President Biden, a Joint Meeting of Congress, and a White House State Dinner. This Summit builds on President Biden’s May 2022 Seoul Visit.
재미동포, 윤석열 대통령 미국 국빈방문 축하
워싱턴 D.C. — 이번 주에 바이든 대통령과 질 바이든 여사는 대한민국 윤석열 대통령과 김건희 여사를 국빈 초청한다. 이번 방문은 한미 양국 70주년 기념일을 축하하는 가운데, 미국 한인 커뮤니티에서 환영한다.
한국계 미국인 협의회(Council of Korean Americans, CKA) 사무총장 에이브러함 킴은 “윤 대통령의 국빈 방문은 미국과 대한민국 70년 동맹 관계를 다시 한 번 확고하게 재확인하는 중요한 의미를 지닌다”라며, “이번 방문은 두 나라와 두 나라 사람들 간의 깊은 유대와 지속적인 관계를 증명하는 것이다”라고 말했다.
또한 그는 “바이든-윤석열 대통령 정상회담은 특히 한인 커뮤니티에게 매우 중요하다. 한국계 미국인들과 CKA 회원들은 지난 수십 년간 서로 연합하여 공유하는 가치와 역사를 바탕으로 두 나라 간 경제, 문화, 정치, 안보 관계를 점점 더 강화해 왔다. 이번 국빈 방문을 통해 미국과 대한민국 사람들, 혁신가들, 지도자들 간의 관계와 지원이 더욱 깊어질 것을 기대한다.”고 밝혔다.
윤 대통령의 워싱턴 D.C. 방문은 2011년 이후 한국 대통령으로서는 처음 진행되는 국빈 방문이다. 윤대통령 국빈방문 일정에는 바이든 대통령과의 양자 정상회담, 의회 합동 회의, 백악관 국빈 만찬 등이 있다. 이번 정상회담은 바이든 대통령의 지난 2022년 5월 서울 방문을 이어가는 의미를 지닌다.
