Kim Soo-gon, Former Director of the MinKwon Center, Passes Away
오늘은 가슴 아픈 소식을 전합니다. 오랜 기간 민권센터 이사장과 명예 이사장을 맡아서 활동하셨던 김수곤 박사님이 지난 5월 13일 별세하셨습니다. 김 박사님은 민권센터 창립 때부터 함께하시면서 지도자 역할을 해주셨고 수많은 후대들에게 모범이 되어주신 ‘어르신’이었습니다. 저희 민권센터 이사와 스태프, 자원봉사자들은 박사님과 함께 일해왔다는 사실을 영광으로 생각합니다. 그리고 박사님의 뜻은 따님 제니퍼 김씨가 현재 민권센터 이사로 활동하며 이어가고 있습니다.
I regret to share the heartbreaking news today. Dr. Kim Sookon, who served as the director and honorary director of the Human Rights Center for a long period, passed away on May 13th. Dr. Kim was a respected leader who played a pivotal role since the establishment of the Human Rights Center, and he was a role model for numerous future generations. Our board members, staff, and volunteers at the Human Rights Center consider it an honor to have worked alongside Dr. Kim. His legacy continues through his daughter, Jennifer Kim, who is currently serving as a director at the Human Rights Center, carrying on his mission.
장례는 오는 19일 오후 5시 가족과 친지들을 초청해 중앙장의사(162-14 Sanford Ave, 플러싱)에서 열립니다. 오후 6시에는 김 박사님의 발자취를 함께 나누는 시간도 마련합니다. 가족들은 박사님의 뜻에 따라 화환을 대신해 민권센터 등 본인이 평생 열정적으로 참여하고 옹호했던 단체들에 기부를 권하고 있습니다. 민권센터 이사와 스태프들은 김 박사님의 뜻을 다시 한번 되새기며 앞으로 커뮤니티를 위해를 더욱 땀흘릴 것을 다짐합니다.
The funeral will be held on the 19th at 5 p.m., inviting family and friends at the Central Funeral Home (162-14 Sanford Ave, Flushing). At 6 p.m., there will be a time to share Dr. Kim’s footsteps together. In accordance with the doctor’s wishes, the family recommends donating to organizations such as the Civil Rights Center instead of floral wreaths, reflecting his lifelong passion and advocacy. The board members and staff of the Civil Rights Center reaffirm Dr. Kim’s intentions and pledge to continue sweating for the community in the future.
