  • Oh-oh-oh, yeah, yeah, yeah
  • Ooh, baby

  • 우리 떠날래?
    [u·li / tteo·nal·lae?]
    Will we leave?
*우리(u·li): The word ‘우리(= we)’ is a first-person pronoun in which the speaker refers to himself and the listener, or to several people, including himself and the listener. However, this is only used when the speaker refers to several people, including himself, in relation to a person who is not of a higher age or status than him.

When speaking to people who are older or higher in status than us, including myself, you should use the humble word ‘저희(jeo·hui = we)’ of ‘우리’ instead of ‘우리’. The really difficult thing about Korean is that you have to use ‘modesty words(존칭어jon·ching·eo 尊稱語)’ depending on the situation.

Based on me as the speaker, the way of speaking differs according to the social status, age, and place of the listener. Or, the way of speaking in public and private places is different.

Korean modesty words appear in personal pronouns or verb changes. Even nouns or adjectives with the same meaning have different uses depending on the opponent. Of course, there are many times when people of high social status or older have to use these ‘modesty words‘.

It may be hard to believe, but in Korea, social activities are almost impossible without the use of this ‘modesty words‘. The same goes for the president.
  • 출발한 뒤에 고민해도 늦지 않아 (Tonight)
    [chul·bal·han / dwi·e / go·min·hae·do / neuj·ji / anh·a]
It’s not too late to think after leaving (Tonight)
  • 가끔 즉흥적인 게* 좀 필요해, eh-eh
    [ga·kkeum / jeug·heung·jeog·in / ge / jom / pil·yo·hae]
Sometimes I need some improvisation, eh-eh
    *게(ge): ‘게’ is a colloquial form of 것(geos = something)’. And the dependent noun ‘거(geo)’ is written with a space from the preceding sentence. Therefore, write something like “이런i·leon / 게ge / 사랑인가sa·lang·in·ga / 봐bwa(= I guess this is love)”, and “그런geu·leon / 게ge / 아니야a·ni·ya ( = It’s not like that.)

Among the parts of speech in Korean, there is a ‘dependent noun(의존ui·jon 명사 myeong·sa)’. This is a noun that cannot be used alone, but leans under another word. In addition to the ‘게(ge)’ in these lyrics, there are a lot of ‘따름(tta·leum)’, ‘뿐(ppun)’, ‘수(su)’, ‘나위(nawi)’, ‘분(bun)’, ‘바(ba)’ and ‘데(de)’, etc.
  • 해가 저물면 (Oh-oh, yeah, yeah)

    [tto / mol·lae / chim·dae / bakk·eu·lo / bal·eul / nae·lyeo·noh·eul / ttaen]
When you secretly put your feet out of bed
  • 흰 모래알이 느껴져, yeah, 이 느낌* (So great)
    [huin / mo·lae·al·i / neu·kkyeo·jyeo] [i / neu·kkim]
I can feel the white sand, yeah, this feeling* (So great)
  • 방문을 열고 자, 바람처럼 사라질래
    [bang·mun·eul / yeo·lgo / ja, / ba·lam·cheo·leom / sa·la·jil·lae]

    Dance freely
  • 저 달이 오늘따라* 예뻐서
    [jeo / dal·i / o·neul·tta·la / ye·ppeo·seo]
Because that moon is especially pretty today
    *오늘따라(o·neul·tta·la): ‘오늘따라’ is ‘오늘+따라’. ‘오늘’ is ‘Today’. ‘따라’ is an auxiliary adjective that means “Only coincidentally in that case without any special reason”. Therefore, ‘오늘따라’ means ‘especially today’ Another example;

    이상하게도 그날따라 전화가 많이 왔어요.
    [i·sang·ha·ge·do / geu·nal·tta·la / jeon·hwa·ga / manh·i / wass·eo·yo.]
= Oddly enough, I got a lot of calls especially that day.
(이상하게도 = Oddly enough, Strangely / 그날따라 = especially that day / 전화 = calls / 많이 = a lot of / 왔어요 = came, got) *’왔어요’ is the past tense of ‘오다(o·da)’. The meaning of ‘오다’ is ‘come’. So ‘전화가 왔어요.’ is originally ‘calls came.’ This is ‘got calls’ in English. In the example sentence, the subject ‘I’ is omitted. In Korean, it is often said that the subject is omitted. Still, it all makes sense.
