STORY OF J-POP
I only knew Japanese songs as enka, but I found out that enka is one of the popular Japanese genres, and it is a genre created by combining foxtrot and Japanese folk songs from the West.
Momoe has been one of the most loved national stars by Japanese people since her debut until now, and it is said that the word ‘idol’ was coined in Japan because of her. She is said to have been called ‘legendary idol’, ‘unexpected maiden’, and ‘the best idol after the war’
Momoe was born on January 17, 1959. She was active for approximately 7 years, from April 14, 1973 to October 15, 1980. About 42 years after her retirement, she is still considered as one of the three greatest singers of Showa Japan’s music scene, and to this day, she is said to be regarded as one of the representative icons of the Showa era.
Her voice is warm and makes me feel deep affection. There was someone’s comment on Momoe’s YouTube.
“Good actor, good wife, good mother”
I wonder why she retired at such a young age in her great heyday.
