일본어교육소위원회의 2017년 자료에 의하면 세계 각국에서 일본의 일본어학교에 등록하여 일본어를 공부하는 학생 현황은 다음과 같다.
꿈을 쫓아 일본으로!
아시아 지역이 202,127명(84.4%)으로 가장 많고, 다음으로 남아메리카 지역이 8930명(3.7%), 유럽 지역이 7471명(3.1%), 북아메리카 지역이 6,629명(2.8%), 러시아·NIS 국가가 2273명(0.9%), 아프리카 지역이 1,794명(0.7%), 대양주가 1,248명(0.5%) 순이다.
국적 순으로 보면 중국이 최다인 76,432명(31.9%)이다. 그 다음은 베트남 51,246명(21.4%), 네팔 12,886명(5.4%)이며 스리랑카는 전년의 1.6배로 증가하였다고 한다.
그 외의 국적은 인도, 태국, 대만, 필리핀, 브라질, 말레이시아, 미얀마, 몽골, 나이지리아, 베닌 등 세계 각국의 학생들이 와서 공부하고 있다.
우리 교회 영어부에도 최근 나이지리아, 베넹, 이란, 인도, 필리핀, 브라질 학생 들이 재학기간 방문하여 예배를 같이 드리고 음식을 같이 나누며 그리스도의 형제 애를 나누었다.
나이지리아에서 온 형제는 문부성 장학생으로 온 경우인데, 공부하고 아르바이트 하기도 힘든 데 참 성실히 교회를 섬기는 모습이 인상적이었다.
이번에 안 사실은 개발도상국에서 온 학생들은 대부분 유학 자금을 브로커 또는 기타 소스를 통해 빌려서 온 경우가 많았다. 그래서 재학 기간 중 아르바이트를 통해 비용을 변제하여야 해서 거의 밤샘 하다시피 일하고 또 공부한다. 졸업 후에도 빛을 변제 하느라 엄청난 고생을 한다는 것이다.
이들은 식사도 변변히 못하는 경우도 있는 등 정말 힘든 생활을 하고 있다. 우리 교회에 온 아프리카 형제들은 이 번에 졸업 후 전문학교와 대학 등에 진학해서 메카트로닉스와 로보틱스를 공부하여 자신의 미래를 개척하겠다고 한다. 이들의 앞날에 하나님의 은혜가 함께 하시길 바란다.

In our church, we had visitors of some students from a nearby Japanese Language school of various nationalities: Nigeria, Benning, Iran, Philippines, Brazil, and India. We welcomed them with brethren love having service together and sharing food.

One student of Nigerian who came to Japan on a scholarship from the Japanese Ministry of Education impressed us with his sincere stewardship in serving as an offering collector, being tired after part-time work last night. He even introduced his colleagues to church.
I recently learned from him that many students undergo hardship doing part-time jobs to pay back their debt for coming to Japan to study., sometimes skipping meals. African students who attended our church service graduated from school the other day.
They plan to attend higher school for their subsequent studying to major in mechatronics and robotics with an ambition to be engineers. My warmest congratulations on their graduation, with best wishes for fair weather and smooth sailing in the years ahead.
