“The New Jersey State Association of Pipe Trades protects their members who work everyday to make sure our systems are safe and running smoothly in New Jersey,” said Congressman Andy Kim. “As we see historic flooding and extreme weather across the state, these members are especially vital in protecting New Jersey families by keeping the heat on and the water running, and I am honored to have them stand with me this year and will fight for them in the Senate.”

MOORESTOWN N.J. – Today, Congressman Andy Kim announced the endorsement from Giffords PAC, a national gun violence prevention organization founded by former Congresswoman, gun violence survivor, and activist Gabby Giffords. Giffords PAC works to elect candidates to office across all levels of government on both sides of the aisle who will enact the gun laws America badly needs, and works to defeat candidates bought and paid for by the NRA. Congressman Kim was previously endorsed by Giffords PAC in his 2018, 2020 and 2022 congressional races.

“Giffords PAC works every day to elect candidates who will offer common sense solutions to our country’s gun violence epidemic, and I am proud to have their support this year,” said Congressman Andy Kim. “Gun violence is everywhere in America from the classroom to the grocery store, and it doesn’t have to be this way. I’m ready to keep working with Giffords PAC to keep our families and communities safe.”

“Congressman Andy Kim is the leader New Jersey families need and deserve in the US Senate. Amid challenging times, his moral compass has never wavered, and he’s proven to be a tireless advocate against gun violence,” said Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. “In the US House, Congressman Kim has reached across the aisle to work toward background checks on all gun sales and has helped pass the first major gun safety law in nearly thirty years. I’m proud to endorse Congressman Kim today. I know he’ll help build a safer future for every American and make New Jersey proud.”

As a member of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, Congressman Andy Kim has been a leader in enacting meaningful legislation. In Congress, Andy co-sponsored and voted to pass into law the Bipartisan Background Checks Act, a landmark bill that represented the biggest advancement in gun violence prevention in more than a decade. The law includes enhanced background checks, protections for victims of domestic violence, and hundreds of millions of dollars for states like New Jersey for mental health services. Kim has also co-sponsored and worked to pass in the House the Enhanced Background Checks Act, which would close critical loopholes and improve background checks to keep guns out of the wrong hands, and has also co-sponsored the Assault Weapons Ban.

Congressman Andy Kim Lands Major Endorsement from UAW Region 9 in His Race For U.S. Senate

MOORESTOWN N.J. – Over the weekend, Congressman Andy Kim joined Katie Phang on MSNBC where he discussed Speaker Johnson’s failure to pass aid to Ukraine or stand up to Donald Trump, the January 6th insurrection, and the need for America to show allies around the world that the U.S. is a reliable partner

The interview, which can be found here, also touched on how his family’s story impacted his view on public service, and how that would translate into his approach as a history-making senator. Highlights from Congressman Kim include:

On How his Parents and Their Story Shaped his Views on Public Service and Running for Senate

“Well, you know, my parents taught me- they said that service isn’t just a job, it’s a way of life. They told me, you know, it’s not just something you do 9 to 5 and you hang it on up. So, you know, I’ve dedicated every minute of my career to serving in this country. And I hope to serve this country for every minute the rest of my career…I think in general, there’s a hunger for a new generation of leadership to step up and let someone like myself, that comes with experience in national security and foreign policy, to be able to step into this moment of such, you know, historic chaos and conflicts and crises that are out there.”

January 6th

“What we saw on January 6th, it wasn’t just about one person, you know, and Donald Trump was certainly someone that instigated it, and we see him back on the ballot. But we have real problems deep to the bone in this country, and the fact that Donald Trump is back, it’s scary in terms of what comes next. And I’m a father of a six year old and an eight year old, and I don’t want them to grow up in this broken America that we see right now. So I hope to be able to fix it. But we have to be able to win these elections this coming November.”

Speaker Johnson Not Passing Ukraine Aid

“This is a failure of Speaker Johnson. This is something where we see the cowardice of him, unwilling to be able to stand up to Donald Trump, unwilling to stand up against some of the most extreme elements of his party and do the right thing for our national security. As someone who worked in diplomacy before, I always said the last place that partisan politics belongs is in our national security. And unfortunately, it’s injected right into the heart of what Speaker Johnson is trying to do, and it’s hurting our national interests.”

America’s Ability to be a Leader During This Time of World Crisis

“But when we’re not seen as reliable, that’s when our American leadership is on the decline. And so when [our partners across the world] see what happens with Ukraine, when they see that we’re not willing to be able to stand with them when they’re not asking for our troops, they’re not asking for us to risk our lives. But, you know, the fact that we can’t stand there with our European partners, it’s really, it’s embarrassing, honestly.”

MOORESTOWN, NJ – Today, Congressman Kim released the following statement regarding First Lady Tammy Murphy’s decision to suspend her campaign for Senate, which was announced earlier today.

“Tammy Murphy has been a voice for progress and public service in our state, and I respect her decision to carry on that work as First Lady. Tammy and I both agree that it is critical that we keep this seat, and the Senate, in Democratic control. Unity is vital. We will continue our efforts to strengthen our democracy in New Jersey while we come together to stand up against the dangerous agenda pushed by Trump. I look forward to working alongside her, and the Governor, between now and November, and I hope to work alongside them to fight for New Jersey if I’m elected to represent our amazing state in the U.S. Senate.”

ICYMI – New Jersey Voters See Andy Kim’s Grassroots Momentum in National, Local News

ICYMI – 뉴저지 유권자들, 전국 및 지역 뉴스에서 Andy Kim 풀뿌리 모멘텀 확인.. (영문)

MOORESTOWN N.J. – This weekend, less than 30 days before vote-by-mail ballots will be sent to voters in New Jersey, people across the state saw one clear message from national and local news outlets: Andy Kim is the candidate with the grassroots momentum, and the strongest candidate in the final 10 weeks of the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate.

Aside from yesterday’s appearance on MSNBC, highlights from media coverage this weekend includes:

Washington Post: In New Jersey, an insurgent upends a Democratic machine

Kim, 41, has turned the Senate race into something bigger than just a fight over who should replace the state’s senior senator, Bob Menendez (D), who faces a felony corruption trial later this year and is mulling running as an independent. Now Kim is trying to fight against the system of these county party chiefs, both through running to defeat their handpicked candidate, Murphy, and by battling in court to try to outlaw the “line” system.

“It’s more of a movement to try to restore power back to the citizen, to the voters, to the people. And that appeals to a wide swath,” Kim said.

Daily Beast: NJ Underdog Turning the Tide In Battle for Sen. Menendez’s Seat

When New Jersey First Lady Tammy Murphy announced her candidacy to replace disgraced Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) in November, a David-versus-Goliath narrative about the race quickly took hold in the state’s political circles and in media coverage.

Murphy, the wealthy and well-connected wife of two-term New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy (D), personified the state’s powerful party establishment. The governor has a record of pouring millions into his own campaigns, she had relationships with the state’s influential party bosses, and most of New Jersey’s top Democrats quickly pledged their allegiance to Murphy.

Despite impressive initial fundraising and polling numbers, Kim barely stood a chance—or so the conventional wisdom held.

With the June primary election drawing closer, Kim is now telling a different story. He is fighting Murphy on her turf—insider-dominated county party conventions—and coming away with endorsements. He has converted Murphy supporters into Kim supporters, like Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop.

CNN: How Donald Trump, Joe Biden and grassroots liberals could upend Democratic politics in one of the country’s bluest states

Murphy’s decision to seek the seat, and the speed with which local pooh-bahs lined up behind her, triggered what could be a generational realignment in a state historically dominated by powerful party bosses in the way that many Americans associate with a bygone era – recalling New York’s Tammany Hall of the mid-19th century…

…But the explosion of grassroots liberal engagement following Trump’s election – a shock to the system that ignited a wave of new interest that echoed the post-Watergate push for good government laws – emboldened “line” opponents…

…Frustrated, anxious and angry, the Democratic grassroots across the country revolted at every level of government, mixing intense lobbying of federal lawmakers with a surge in outsider candidacies for down-ballot offices. Groups such as Indivisible, with its hyper-engaged local chapters – many stocked with middle-aged, upper-middle-class, first-time political activists – began to question everything from party strategy to the arcane institutional processes that had operated for so long with a minimum of oversight.

Let’s look at the numbers. In Atlantic City County, he won 156 to 54. He took 74% of the vote. He’s won in Burlington, Ocean. Mercer, Monmouth, those counties, which makes sense because they’re Central and South Jersey. But he’s also won in Hunterdon, Sussex and Warren up in the North. Could a rout be coming here?

Commentator 1

I think it’s coming because the thing that I remember about Andy Kim, and I think most of America remembers is, he was on his knees on the Capitol floor cleaning up, cleaning up after that terrible day in Washington that none of us will forget. His authenticity, I think, really is going to carry the day. I think it’s going to be rout.

Commentator 2

And there’s been a wide scale rejection among the grassroots Democratic primary voters for the way that Tammy Murphy was presented to them; this is the first lady she’s going to be the next senator. Kind of almost as an afterthought. I think the electorate has come to say we have a choice in this and we’re choosing.

Well, [Jersey City is] the biggest town, biggest municipality in the state. He’s also got the Hoboken Dems who came out for him this week. So to the extent that even he’s able to cut into Tammy Murphy’s margin in Hudson County, that can be a big deal. By itself, does one endorsement kind of matter? No, but it reinforces that whole momentum argument that you have or you don’t have.

Star Ledger (Opinion): The Democratic Party bosses probably should have thought this whole Tammy Murphy thing through

The party bosses thought they could rubber stamp the candidate of their choosing and people would pull the lever, and why wouldn’t they? That’s how it’s always been done, but they didn’t count on Andy Kim. There’s very little enthusiasm for a Murphy family dynasty and people are seemingly excited to vote for Andy Kim. He’s won every county vote where the ballot was private, usually by wide margins.

Star Ledger (Opinion): The bullies in Camden, and the rot in the Democratic Party

Kim won with a staggering 85 percent of the vote in Morris. He got a standing ovation before he even took the stage, and another one after he spoke. The contrast between Camden and Morris tells us two things. One is that Kim is the far stronger candidate to face a Republican in the fall. In every county that plays fair, he has crushed Murphy to dust.

Politico: The future of New Jersey politics is on the line

It was all unthinkable six months ago.

The Menendez indictment landed — with its claims of favors exchanged for gifts, wads of cash and gold bars — and touched off a scramble for his seat among fellow Democrats. Three-term Rep. Andy Kim immediately jumped into the primary. New Jersey first lady Tammy Murphy followed. Then all hell broke loose.

Grassroots Democrats revolted against Murphy and the state’s party boss system. Kim effectively took the party establishment to court. The state attorney general, one of Gov. Phil Murphy’s longtime closest allies, shockingly denounced the very political system that Tammy Murphy is pinning her Senate hopes on. And now New Jersey’s legislative leaders say they may overhaul the unusual ballot system that’s given a handful of local leaders the power to sway elections.

ICYMI – Rep. Andy Kim on MSNBC: People in New Jersey Want “A New Generation of Leadership”

MOORESTOWN N.J. – Earlier today, Congressman Andy Kim joined Alex Witt on MSNBC where he discussed the power of a growing movement to restore integrity to politics in New Jersey, and the broken politics New Jerseyans are seeing from machine politicians and MAGA Republicans.

The interview, which can be found here, also touched on the government funding deal passed overnight by the U.S. Senate, and the terror attack in Russia by ISIS-K. Highlights from Congressman Kim include:

New Jersey Senate Primary

“Right now, people in New Jersey, they want a politics that is grounded in integrity. They want a new generation of leadership to step up. And right now, I am getting a lot of support across the state from people who are tired of the same old, same old broken politics that are out there. So whether Menendez, wherever he is on the ballot, whether he’s there on the ballot in November or not, I will beat him. I will win the seat and I will do my best to try to represent the people in New Jersey in a way that they haven’t been represented before by him.”

GOP Congressional Dysfunction and Budget Deal Passage

“…What I would say is that, you know, we needed to get this done. It was an embarrassment in front of the entire nation, frankly, the entire world that we’ve been kicking this can down the road for months.”

ISIS-K Terror Attack on Russia

“…This is something that I’ve been tracking for a long time. I worked for two years at the White House National Security Council, focused on countering ISIS. I have, back in 2019, I went out to Afghanistan when I was a member of Congress, in particular about issues related to ISIS, Khorasan. So we certainly see the rising concern and threat. But also what we see from here is just the scope of their ambition and their capacity to actually be able to follow through on that. And that is something that’s very alarming, something that’s much more concrete than what we’ve seen in years past.

Congressman Kim Secures $637,195 for Burlington County Emergency Operations Center in Government Funding Bill

앤디 김 하원의원, 정부 자금 지원 법안에서 벌링턴 카운티 비상 운영 센터에 637,195달러 확보

WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, Congressman Andy Kim (NJ-03) voted to pass the second half of the partial government funding package for Fiscal Year 2024.

“Today we were finally able to move forward on another bipartisan partial government funding package that provides a well deserved pay raise for our troops, increased funding for childcare and Head Start programs, and invests in climate change mitigation programs. This bill also includes funding for my final Community Project Funding request that will have a massive impact for first responders in Burlington County; upgrading important technology so our dispatchers are able to help send first responders to people across Burlington County when they need help. I’m proud to have delivered this funding to go hand-in-hand with the other 14 major projects secured in the funding package passed earlier this month.

“We were able to achieve these wins only after Republicans wasted months on partisan bickering and political posturing. Instead of working to fund our government, they spent the better part of the last year attacking reproductive rights, the LGBTQ+ community, and failing to provide our allies around the world with the support they need. We can and should be doing better as a country, and I hope going forward we’re able to tackle America’s challenges head on and without partisan politics getting in the way of real progress.”

In the funding package, Congressman Kim was able to secure the 15th and final Community Project Funding request:

  • $637,195 to update all of the technology, furniture, electrical, and communications equipment in the Burlington County Emergency Operations Center, which dispatches all emergency communications for all of its municipalities and agencies at no cost to the towns.

The Congressman was able to successfully bring funding to every request that was made, the other 14 were funded in the previous partial government funding package for FY24.

A detailed summary of the bill is available here

Congressman Kim submitted requests under guidelines issued by the House Appropriations Committee, and only state and local governments and eligible non-profit entities are permitted to receive funding. You can learn more about the Community Project Funding requests Congressman Kim submitted on his website.

ICYMI – Tammy’s Murphy’s Candidacy Compared to Infamous Titanic Voyage

ICYMI – 태미 머피 후보 악명 높은 타이타닉 항해와 비교돼.. (영문)

MOORESTOWN N.J. – Today, Star Ledger columnist Paul Mulshine wrote a column equating Tammy Murphy’s candidacy to the well known and ill-fated Titanic voyage, summarizing the unfair political “Machine” tactics Tammy Murphy has relied on thus far to secure her senate nomination. As cracks start to form in her campaign, some Democrats are calling on her to drop out.

Here is how voters in New Jersey read about the news:

Star Ledger: Rough seas ahead: Tammy Murphy should get out while the getting’s good | Mulshine

When I visited recently [Belfast], we had a pleasant brunch at a restaurant overlooking the dock from which the Titanic embarked on the most ill-fated launch ever. Until Tammy Murphy kicked off her campaign for the U.S. Senate, that is. There are still more than two months until the Democratic primary. But already the Murphy campaign has made all the mistakes expected of a political newcomer and even added some new ones.

In the privacy of the voting booth, however, Kim comes out on top. That was evident from the beginning, when the voters of Murphy’s own Monmouth County chose Kim by a margin of 57-39 percent over Murphy. In Morris County, which also used secret ballots, Kim got 85 percent and two standing ovations.

The Democratic deep-thinkers of my acquaintance tell me that it may be time for Tammy Murphy to reconsider…“Mrs. Murphy should pull out before the filing date,” one of them said. “Then she won’t be on the ballot and be embarrassed by a 70-30 loss.”

Congressman Andy Kim Awarded the Gun Sense Candidate Distinction from Moms Demand Action in His Race for Senate

MOORESTOWN N.J. –  Yesterday, Congressman Andy Kim announced he has been awarded the Moms Demand Action “Gun Sense Candidate Distinction” in his race for U.S. Senate. Founded the day after the tragic shooting in Sandy Hook, Moms Demand Action has grown to be a national grassroots movement, with a volunteer chapter in every state of the country and Washington, D.C. and is part of Everytown for Gun Safety, the largest gun violence prevention organization in the country with nearly 10 million supporters.

“Far too many lives have been lost due to gun violence in this country, but the work done by grassroots groups like Moms Demand Action and Everytown for Gun Safety gives me hope that together we can take on the MAGA agenda and the NRA to curb these senseless tragedies,” said Congressman Andy Kim. “I have been a champion for gun violence prevention in the House and am ready to step up and find lasting solutions in the Senate so we can end gun violence in this country once and for all.”

In Congress, Congressman Kim co-sponsored and voted to pass into law the Bipartisan Background Checks Act, a landmark bill that represented the biggest advancement in gun violence prevention in more than a decade. The law includes enhanced background checks, protections for victims of domestic violence, and hundreds of millions of dollars for states like New Jersey for mental health services. Kim has also co-sponsored and worked to pass in the House the Enhanced Background Checks Act, which would close critical loopholes and improve background checks to keep guns out of the wrong hands, and has also co-sponsored the Assault Weapons Ban to keep weapons of war off of our streets. As a member of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, Congressman Kim has been recognized for his leadership on gun safety, receiving the “Gun Sense Candidate Distinction” during his first run in 2018, and during his reelection in 2020 and 2022.

First elected to Congress in 2018 at the age of 36, three-term Congressman Andy Kim is one of the younger members to serve in Congress and is the first Asian American elected to federal office from New Jersey. In 2018 and 2020, Andy defeated two self-funding millionaires in a district carried by former President Trump, going on to vote to impeach Trump twice throughout his presidency. In 2022, Kim defeated his third self-funding millionaire opponent by 12 points

In his three terms in Congress, Andy has worked hard to lower costs for New Jersey families and help support small businesses through challenging times. Andy has also been a leading champion in fighting against corruption in our broken politics.

With members in all 50 states, MoveOn members work together on rapid-response organizing and campaigning, communications interventions, digital innovation, rigorous data science and testing, all the while uplifting a culture of grassroots participation that has repeatedly produced real-world impact. “I am honored to have been endorsed by MoveOn, an organization that has been pivotal in furthering progressive ideals and taking on Trump by mobilizing voters and building a movement of grassroots activists across the country,” said Congressman Andy Kim. “They will be instrumental partners in bringing our statewide grassroots energy to a whole new level and I look forward to working with them to knock on doors, make phone calls, and make sure everyone gets out the vote for June 4th.”

“We need all hands on deck to ensure that our representation in Congress continues to champion working people,” said Rahna Epting, MoveOn executive director, in a statement shared first with Axios.

ICYMI – Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop Rescinds Murphy Endorsement; Backs Andy Kim for Senate

MOORESTOWN N.J. – Yesterday, Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop endorsed Congressman Andy Kim in the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate. This endorsement came after Fulop had previously endorsed First Lady Tammy Murphy.

Here is how voters in New Jersey read about the news:

Star Ledger: Tammy Murphy loses major endorsement in increasingly wild U.S. Senate race

“I was an early supporter of Tammy Murphy for Senate but it’s no secret I’ve been disappointed with the campaign and how it has been conducted,” Fulop said in a statement. ”I’ve expressed that over the last two months repeatedly both privately and publicly, and at this point, it’s clear to me that I was wrong with my early support and endorsement of Tammy Murphy for Senate…At this point, I don’t think it’s in the state’s best interest for Tammy to continue her campaign.“

Murphy, a first-time candidate, was cast as the frontrunner early on in the primary as she quickly gathered critical endorsements from leading Democrats. But her campaign has frequently been a rocky one as Kim has led in polls and seen a surge in support from grassroots and progressive Democrats as the candidates fight for preferential primary ballot placement known as the “county line.”

NJ Spotlight (PBS): Fulop withdraws endorsement of Tammy Murphy for US Senate

“In eighteen years of elected office, I’ve never ever changed support publicly like this,” Fulop said in an interview with NJ Spotlight News. “So I don’t take it lightly. I made a mistake.” Fulop added, “Andy has conveyed that he has the experience, he’d be the better candidate in November. And most importantly, the energy of the party is supporting Andy Kim clearly and if we’re going to keep the seat Democratic in November, you need that energy.”

New Jersey Globe: Fulop switches his support from Murphy to Kim in U.S. Senate race

Now, he’s acknowledged that he moved too quickly. “It’s never easy to admit when mistakes are made, but I should have waited longer before endorsing,” said Fulop, the mayor of the state’s second-largest city. “Clearly, [Andy Kim’s] campaign has become a catalyst for the backbone of the Democratic Party to be saying loud and clear that things need to change in New Jersey. I agree with them.”

Fulop sharply criticized Camden County Democrats for denying another U.S. Senate candidate, Patricia Campos-Medina, access to their county committee meeting after a video showed five men blocking her on Saturday [March 16th]. “There is really no way to defend this, even in the world of New Jersey politics, and I’m disappointed that Tammy Murphy hasn’t commented publicly (or) taken any action distancing herself from this,” Fulop said on social media yesterday. “There is no rational way to defend it nor benefit from it.”

NJ.com: Fulop yanks endorsement, but HCDO (minus Hoboken Dems) stand ground behind Tammy Murphy

“Her campaign each week has been progressively worse than the previous week with regards to each convention and watching how they handle it with regards to entitlement and disregard for the grassroots of the party,” Fulop said. “Last weekend unfolded in a troubling way as well and as the convention season concluded without any changes, it became clear that I had made a mistake with my early support.”

Hudson County View: Fulop rescinds Murphy endorsement for Senate and backs Kim, contrary to HCDO

“After watching the county conventions, I believe that Andy Kim has proven that he’s the better candidate, with a clearer message, and he brings a better chance of success in November.”

“The question is ‘are you a candidate because of your husband or are you a good candidate that happens to be married to your husband?’ and those are two very different situations and I think she can make that point a little bit more clearly,” he said at a [February 7th appearance on HCV Live & Uncut]

Congressman Andy Kim Wins Morris County Democratic Convention with 85% of the Vote

MOORESTOWN N.J. –  This morning, it was announced that Congressman Andy Kim won the Morris County Convention with a massive 75 point margin of victory, receiving 457-57 votes over First Lady Tammy Murphy. Morris County held their convention on Saturday afternoon where Andy received multiple standing ovations during his candidate speech, after which Morris County leaders gave delegates until midnight on Sunday to vote anonymously via virtual portal before tabulating results Monday morning.

“With this massive win in Morris county, we’ve ended this convention season in NJ with a staggering 9 wins,” said Congressman Andy Kim. “Wherever we had an open and fair opportunity, we won with overwhelming margins. Now we are going to bring that momentum to June 4 in all 21 counties.”

Kim won the endorsement with the backing of several grassroots organizations within Morris County, supporting his effort to restore integrity and fight for working families across New Jersey.

“We need leaders like Andy Kim in New Jersey. In the 2020 election, Andy won a Trump district by nearly 8 points, winning a seat that ensured Democrats were able to maintain control of the House and pass critical legislation like the Inflation Reduction Act and the Respect for Marriage Act. And he won without taking a dollar of corporate PAC money,” said Morris County Progressive Caucus Chair Henry Mielarczyk. “Now, Andy is running for Senate to bring integrity back to New Jersey politics. Progressives in Morris County could not be more proud to endorse Andy Kim for Senate.”

“In a time of uncertainty, Andy Kim’s commitment to transparency reassures us that our voices matter,” said Mt. Arlington Co-Chair Jessica Price. “His track record of accountability speaks volumes about his dedication to public service. Andy Kim embodies the honesty and responsibility we crave in politics. As our senator, he’ll steer the Democratic Party, New Jersey, and our country toward a better future.”

“Andy Kim is the right choice for this important Senate race: a candidate with experience, integrity, and a proven track record of advocating for NJ residents in Congress,” said the Pequannock Democratic Committee. “He’s shown an unwavering commitment to public service, the strength to defend democracy in the face of unprecedented attacks, and a willingness to work hard to make sure our government works. We are excited by the possibilities and progress Andy Kim will bring to the United States Senate.”

“Members of the Hanover Township Democratic Committee overwhelmingly support the MCDC endorsed candidate, Andy Kim, as the Democratic nominee for US Senate,” said Hanover Democratic Committee Chairs. “We agree that his experience in foreign and domestic affairs as a Congressman for the past 5 years will make him an invaluable member of the Senate. He will be ready to work on day one! Andy is not “politics as usual” as he has integrity and a deep commitment to public service. We are proud to be part of Team Andy!”

First elected to Congress in 2018 at the age of 36, three-term Congressman Andy Kim is one of the younger members to serve in Congress and is the first Asian American elected to federal office from New Jersey. If elected to the Senate, Andy would be the 4th youngest Senator, the first senator from South Jersey in recent memory, and the first Asian American elected to the Senate from the entire east coast of America. In 2018 and 2020, Andy defeated two self-funding millionaires in a district carried by former President Trump, and in 2022 Kim defeated his third self-funding millionaire opponent by 12 points.

In his three terms in Congress, Andy has worked hard to lower costs for New Jersey families and help support small businesses through challenging times. Andy has also been a leading champion in fighting against corruption in our broken politics.

Congressman Andy Kim Wins Atlantic County Convention with 74% of the Vote

앤디 김 의원, 74%의 득표율로 애틀랜틱 카운티 전당대회에서 승리.. (영문)

EGG HARBOR CITY N.J. – This afternoon, Congressman Andy Kim decidedly won the Atlantic County Convention with 74% of the vote and with a 48-point margin of victory, receiving 156-54 votes over First Lady Tammy Murphy. This victory joins the long list of Andy Kim wins when rank-and-file democrats participate in this decision and can vote via secret ballot, as the hundreds of Atlantic County delegates voted anonymously using paper ballots.

“Our momentum is growing stronger every day and we are winning in every corner of New Jersey,” said Congressman Andy Kim. “I thank those across Atlantic County who stood by me today as we take our effort to restore integrity and deliver for working people across New Jersey.”

A clear pattern has emerged during this year’s ‘Convention Cycle’ that proves Andy Kim wins when the choice is up to the voters who are allowed to vote via secret ballot and without undue pressure from New Jersey’s political machine. The results speak for themselves- In Monmouth County, Andy won 265-181 over First Lady Tammy Murphy with 60% of the vote. In Burlington County, he won 245-21 over Tammy Murphy only to win again the following day in Hunterdon County with 62% of the vote. He went on to win in Sussex County with 57% of the vote and Warren County by over 80%. He won Ocean County’s convention with 86% of the vote and a 73-point victory margin. He went on to win Mercer County’s convention with 62% of the vote, completely shutting out Tammy Murphy from the 40% threshold needed to secure the line. In stark contrast, First Lady Tammy Murphy has seemingly only gained endorsements when decided by the party bosses or through pressure tactics like denying secret ballots at conventions.

First elected to Congress in 2018 at the age of 36, three-term Congressman Andy Kim is one of the younger members to serve in Congress and is the first Asian American elected to federal office from New Jersey. Congressman Andy Kim Corrects False Statements from Opponent Tammy Murphy

MOORESTOWN, NJ – Today, First Lady Tammy Murphy stated inflammatory and flagrantly incorrect information regarding Congressman Kim’s record in a failed attempt to mislead voters.

On March 14th, 2024 Congressman Kim went on-record about his stance on the discharge petition vote. His statement is the following:

“When I worked at the White House a colleague told me, the last place that partisan politics belongs is in the Situation Room, in our national security. I support the discharge petition to vote on the senate passed bill and will sign it when the House reconvenes next week. I am tired of Speaker Johnson abusing his power to play politics with our national security by blocking the House from deciding.”

Congressman Kim has taken approximately 2,700 votes in Congress and has a 98% attendance record which is one of the highest attendance records in Congress. These votes have included delivering lower prescription drug costs for seniors, combating climate change, fighting corruption, and pursuing a progressive agenda for change.

First elected to Congress in 2018 at the age of 36, three-term Congressman Andy Kim is one of the younger members to serve in Congress and is the first Asian American elected to federal office from New Jersey.  Middlesex “Convention” Allows One Person to Decide Candidate Endorsement for U.S. Senate for a County of a Quarter Million Registered Democrats

ISELIN N.J. – Today, Congressman Andy Kim refused to back down in the face of deeply unfair tactics during the Middlesex Convention. Prior to the vote taking place, delegates in the room motioned for a secret ballot, however, the Parliamentarian refused to follow up the request which resulted in a chant breaking out amongst the crowd demanding a fair vote. Nonetheless, the public ‘non-binding’ vote proceeded. Voters, many of whom have jobs and positions in local, county, and state government, were required to vote by raising their hands in front of all county leadership. This vote was non-binding and advisory only, as the Chairman made clear that he alone has the sole authority to determine which candidate gets the endorsement. To add insult to injury, the hand-raised votes were not even counted. All of this took place without transparency or accountability as this was the one and only democratic political convention in New Jersey this year that barred press from entering the room and covering the convention proceedings.

“I find it deeply unrepresentative and unfair to have one single person be able to solely decide who is the endorsed candidate for U.S. Senate for a county with over 240,000 registered democrats,” said Congressman Andy Kim. “This election is about restoring trust and integrity, and having a broken system that allows a single person to have this much power to determine elected officials does nothing but further degrade trust in our democracy. The people of New Jersey deserve better, and the voters of Middlesex, not just one party elite, will decide who represents them in the U.S. Senate.”

Newark, NJ – Tonight, Congressman Kim joined Newark Mayor Ras Baraka and other invited guests to hear Newark’s ‘State Of The City’ (S.O.T.C.) address.

“It was inspiring to hear how Newark has been a national model for making housing more affordable, and education and work more accessible,” said Congressman Andy Kim. “I’ve been proud to partner with municipalities across our state during my time in Congress, and look forward to working with Mayor Baraka and others across New Jersey to make sure we’re delivering the resources they need to make their cities and towns better places to live and raise a family.”

Congressman Andy Kim Decisively Wins Mercer County Convention with 62% of the vote

LAWRENCEVILLE N.J. – Tonight, Congressman Andy Kim easily won the Mercer County Convention with a 34-point victory margin, receiving 236-108 votes over Tammy Murphy, resulting in a complete shutout from a potential ‘line-sharing’ opportunity that Mercer County affords any candidates who reach 40% support through a rule in their bylaws. These results came after hundreds of delegates voted via secret paper ballot.

“This is our 7th convention win. There is no denying that the energy we are building is real and growing,” said Congressman Andy Kim. “Tonight is yet another example of the possibilities for our campaign when the people of New Jersey can vote freely without fear, pressure, or intimidation.”

A clear pattern has emerged during this year’s ‘Convention Cycle’ that proves Andy Kim wins when the choice is up to the voters who are allowed to vote via secret ballot and without undue pressure from New Jersey’s political machine. MOORESTOWN N.J. –  Today, Congressman Andy Kim announced multiple endorsements from Democratic leaders and organizations in Mercer County. These endorsements come after Mercer County Democratic Progressive Caucus announced their endorsement last week, and after Andy earned the support of the Princeton Community Democratic Organization, winning over 90% of the vote. Mercer County’s Convention will occur later today via secret ballot.

Congressman Kim has been endorsed by the following:

  • Robbinsville Democratic Club
  • Robbinsville Democratic Committee
  • Hightstown Democratic Club
  • Diane Sandahl, Hopewell Valley Democratic Club Chair

“The grassroots energy I have seen in Mercer County since day one of my campaign for Senate has been electric,” said Congressman Andy Kim. “Thank you to those Mercer County Clubs, Committees, and rank-and-file Democrats for the support as we build a movement to restore integrity and ensure that the people are the ones who decide the next Senator from New Jersey.”

“When Republicans attacked Obamacare, Andy Kim stood up and defeated an incumbent New Jersey Republican who’d won his last race with almost 60% of the vote. Andy used his improbable win to show us how a prepared, courageous new Member of Congress can make a critical difference for our country,” said Hopewell Valley Democratic Club Chair Diane Sandahl. “That’s why we need Andy Kim as our Senator. The work ahead will be hard. It will take leaders who understand how our system of government works and the courage to protect it from the majority of Republicans who, as retiring Senator Mitt Romney said, ‘really don’t believe in the Constitution.’ I am confident that Andy Kim should be our next Senator, that he is the best candidate to win for our Democratic Party, and that he is ready to do the hard work of our democracy the moment he is sworn in as our next Senator.”

“Members of the Robbinsville Democratic Club voted, by an overwhelming majority, to endorse Andy Kim as the Democratic nominee for US Senate,” said the Robbinsville Democratic Club. “His experience, presence in the community, integrity, and unwavering commitment to public service throughout his career uniquely equip him to serve the people of New Jersey. We are proud to be Team Andy!”

“Congressman Andy Kim has exemplified service to his constituents and his country since taking office in 2019. His compassion, dedication, and knowledge will make him an ideal member of the United States Senate,” said the Robbinsville Democratic Committee.

Congressman Andy Kim Wins By 73 Points at Ocean County Convention

앤디 김 의원, 오션 카운티 전당대회에서 73점 차이로 승리.. (영문)

BAYVILLE N.J. – Today, Congressman Andy Kim overwhelmingly won the Ocean County Convention, continuing his streak of winning every non-“machine politics” convention (Monmouth, Burlington, Hunterdon, Sussex, and Warren Counties). Delegates voted via paper ballot in a secret vote, resulting in Congressman Kim winning 86% of the vote over First Lady Tammy Murphy. He now looks towards tomorrow’s Mercer County Convention which will also be a secret ballot.

“I am so thankful to everyone who showed up today and to Chairman Wyatt Earp for running a convention that let the delegates vote their conscience with secret ballots and free from machine politics pressure,” said Congressman Andy Kim. “Ocean County Democrats know the challenges of going up against Republicans and know that I would be by far the strongest general election candidate for the Democrats that can help lift up candidates in tough races up and down the ballot and across the state.”

Congressman Kim represented parts of Ocean County during his first four years in office. During that time, Kim helped secure a new Veterans health clinic, stood up for victims of Superstorm Sandy, delivered funding for projects to help Meals on Wheels, local law enforcement, and to construct a new overpass on Route 539 by Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.

New Jersey Wakes Up to Headlines Showing Andy Kim is the Strongest Candidate to Win NJ Senate Primary

MOORESTOWN N.J. – This morning, New Jersey voters woke up to headlines reinforcing Andy Kim as the strongest Democrat to win the NJ Senate primary in June.

These headlines reinforce months of reporting of Murphy’s failure to connect with New Jersey Democratic voters, and her constant defense of corrupt political systems and well-connected close friends like Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump.

“Tammy Murphy won’t be able to hide behind her well-connected friends for much longer”, said Kim spokesperson Katey Sabo. “Headlines like this bring voters face to face with her actual record; 30 years as a registered Republican, six-figures in donations to anti-choice GOP candidates, and using an undemocratic system to bypass voters at a time when our democracy is already under attack from the same Republicans she once supported.”

Star Ledger (Opinion): Can Andy Kim play giant slayer?

Andy Kim seems to be inspiring something most political candidates around these parts rarely do, genuine enthusiasm. People actually like this guy and believe he’ll do a good job representing the great state of New Jersey in the United States Senate. Belief in a candidate for higher office is a nice change of pace.

The Murphy camp clearly thought they could waltz into the race, lean on the county bosses and cruise to the nomination, and against a lesser candidate she probably would have. But Kim is an excellent candidate.

He’s got the resume complete with public service, prior experience in elected office and the fact that he wasn’t a major Republican donor a decade ago. People aren’t excited to vote against Tammy Murphy, they seem to be excited to vote for Andy Kim. Even some of those aforementioned party leaders, who so publicly backed Murphy, are privately backing Kim. In the counties where endorsement votes are by secret ballot Kim is raking in the votes.

Star Ledger (Opinion): It’s no secret that Tammy Murphy’s a weak candidate

I guess they had to destroy democracy in order to save it. That was my impression after watching the proceedings of the Somerset County Democratic Committee last week at the VFW in Manville

One of the two top candidates for the Democratic nomination is the wife of the governor and one is not. Guess which one got preferential treatment in Somerset? If you guessed Tammy Murphy, you’re correct. As for her opponent, U.S. Rep. Andy Kim threw a big scare into the Murphy camp last month when he defeated Tammy Murphy at the convention in her own Monmouth County.

The most recent Monmouth Poll of New Jersey voters shows Kim received a response of 28 percent favorable with just 10 percent unfavorable. Murphy came in at 14 percent favorable with an unfavorable rating of 26 percent.

There’s a lesson in that for the party leaders. Watch out when you try to destroy democracy. It may end up destroying you.

Star Ledger (Opinion): Andy Kim explains how he’ll win, even in this rigged race.

As Rep. Andy Kim and First Lady Tammy Murphy battle for coveted county endorsements in the Senate primary, a pattern is taking hold. When it’s a fair fight, Kim wins. When it’s rigged by the bosses, he loses.

As for who would be strongest in November, the answer to that is Kim without doubt. He’s better qualified, by a mile. He’s won three times in a district that Trump won twice. He’s a much better speaker, with a more compelling personal story of service. And after his three campaigns, we know that Republicans have already dug deep into his closet. What will they find when they dig into Murphy’s.

Granted, it’s hard to imagine Republicans winning a statewide race with Donald Trump at the top of the ticket. But the latest Monmouth poll, released last week, does point to some glaring weaknesses of the First Lady.

The poll didn’t measure the head-to-head contest, but it reinforced earlier polls showing Kim with a substantial lead. It found that Democrats are feeling the love for Kim, with 48 percent have “favorable” views of him, and a miniscule 2 percent “unfavorable.” Opinion on Murphy was split, with 24 percent “favorable” and 13 percent “unfavorable.”

The more striking finding concerns independent voters, who tend to decide general elections in New Jersey. Just over half say they have ruled out voting for Murphy, giving Republicans a rich target to harvest votes in the fall, should she take the nomination. Just 30 percent of independents said the same of Kim. He believes that’s because the party brand was soiled by the bribery indictment of Sen. Robert Menendez, who was embraced by the machines from the start, even after his first corruption trial ended with a split jury.

To me, Kim makes the more persuasive case. These contests in the machine counties are fake, and because of that, it was almost inevitable that Murphy would win this inside game. When it comes to the June vote, though, my money is still on Kim. It’s a secret ballot, after all.

Star Ledger: Nepo babies of N.J.

A son getting such a head-start because of a well-known father is what the internet first called a nepo baby. The term was initially coined for Hollywood royalty whose kids get a nepotism boost because, like in “Cheers,” everybody knows their name.

It’s a concept now front-and-center in Jersey politics as First Lady Tammy Murphy goes for a U.S. Senate seat and is being accused of having the path cleared for her in the Democratic primary because her husband happens to be the still-very-powerful Gov. Phil Murphy. Her chief opponent, U.S. Rep. Andy Kim, has made it a race in part by calling this the ultimate example of insider politics.

This is all playing out on a big stage as county parties hold conventions and votes in the spirited Senate battle between Murphy and Kim. The first lady’s opponents allege her husband’s standing in the party — and over the state budget — gives her an unfair advantage. Insiders recently told NJ Advance Media many Democrats are afraid to publicly back Kim, and two lawsuits — including one filed by Kim — are challenging the county line.

Big Money Seeking to Influence NJ State Government Fuels Tammy Murphy’s Machine-Driven Campaign

NJ주 정부에 영향을 미치려는 큰 돈, 탬미 머피 선거 캠페인 촉진.. (영문)

MOORESTOWN N.J. – This morning, another headline shows that First Lady Tammy Murphy’s campaign continues to be powered by those seeking to use campaign funds to stay in favor with the NJ State Government, especially as the budget process kicks off.

The story in today’s Star Ledger (below) shows hundreds of thousands of dollars have poured into Murphy’s campaign account by “contractors and lobbyists with business at the Statehouse.” This is in contrast to Kim’s campaign, which as of the last filing, consisted of 92% of donations received being $100 or less, with $0 coming from the support of corporate PACs.

“These campaigns are not the same when it comes to who truly fuels them,” said spokesperson Katey Sabo. “Andy Kim has galvanized tens of thousands of grassroots donors and has been at the forefront of combating corruption and big money in our politics in Congress. Tammy Murphy is openly taking corporate PAC money and depending on the influence of a political system her family controls. That’s not what voters want, and it’s exactly what they’ll reject in June.”

Star Ledger: One source of Tammy Murphy campaign cash: State contractors and lobbyists, disclosures show

In her U.S. Senate bid, First Lady Tammy Murphy has tapped a pot of campaign cash from contractors and lobbyists who do business with the state government led by Gov. Phil Murphy, an NJ Advance Media analysis has found.

Murphy received dozens of donations from executives, lawyers, lobbyists and others tied to companies that either hold contracts with the state government or lobby state agencies and the state Legislature, disclosures show.

Congressman Andy Kim Announces Endorsement from Toms River Democratic Committee Ahead of Sunday’s Ocean County Convention

MOORESTOWN N.J. –  Today, Congressman Andy Kim announced the endorsement of Toms River’s Democratic Committee in his bid for U.S. Senate. This endorsement comes after he announced previous endorsements of other Ocean County Local Democratic Clubs and Committees earlier this year, and before Ocean County’s convention, which is set to occur this upcoming Sunday, via secret ballot.

“I am so honored to have received Toms River’s endorsement, as I was fortunate to be able to represent them in Congress before redistricting, and worked with many of these members to achieve results like the new VA health clinic which will bring relief to so many veterans who need it,” said Congressman Andy Kim. “I’m excited to now take this energy and support to Ocean County’s convention on Sunday.”

“Congressman Andy Kim worked hard for the people of Toms River from the moment he got into office. Through his efforts, the township received millions in FEMA loan forgiveness, and our new VA Health Clinic will be opening soon,” said Toms River Democratic Committee Vice President Laurie Huryk. “In addition to those big-ticket items, there are hundreds of events Congressman Kim has attended and spoken at. Whether it’s a small meeting or a festival in town, Andy shows up. He has been there for us, and is considered a part of our community. Most importantly, Congressman Kim gives me hope for the future. His integrity and unwavering values give me cause to believe that there are politicians out there willing to do the right thing for the people they represent. As the Vice-chair, I’m so proud to announce that the Toms River Democratic Committee voted to endorse Andy Kim for Senate!”

Congressman Andy Kim Scores Big Numbers at Somerset County Convention Despite County’s Machine Efforts

MANVILLE N.J. – Today, Congressman Andy Kim joined 106 delegates in a show of strength against party bosses, where they proved that voters are brave enough to vote their conscience, even in the face of intimidation and scale-tipping. Andy participated in the first public open convention of the cycle, where delegates voted by a raise of hands in front of convention attendees after a call from delegates to change the method of voting to a secret ballot was denied by Chairwoman Peg Schaffer, going against the wishes of many who were voting delegates.

Congressman Kim combatted substantial efforts by Chairwoman Schaffer to ensure Tammy Murphy’s victory, which included writing a letter to delegates pleading with them to vote for Murphy wherein she admitted that their county has been rewarded with judgeships and positions within the government for their machine-like politics, turning down prior requests from delegates to use a secret ballot, and using county resources and operations to send ‘pro-Tammy’ texts to delegates ahead of the convention.

“I am so proud of everyone who stood up today and publicly voted for me, rebuffing the blatant efforts from Chairwoman Schaffer to sway the results in the process,” said Congressman Andy Kim. “Across the state, rank-and-file voters are joining me to create a new vision of New Jersey politics where the people, not the power, decide. These results show that even when faced with a public vote, New Jersey is rising up and demanding a fair choice for the ballot box this June.”

Congressman Kim Introduces Bipartisan, Bicameral Legislation to Protect Americans’ SNAP Benefits from Cyber Threats

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Andy Kim (NJ-03) and Congressman Mike Lawler (NY-07) introduced the bipartisan, bicameral Enhanced Cybersecurity for SNAP Act to protect people and families’ Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits from theft by requiring the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to update its cybersecurity regulations for SNAP Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards.

“Hundreds of thousands of people across New Jersey alone use SNAP to support themselves and their families. With outdated card technology, we are leaving their benefits vulnerable to cybersecurity theft and leaving families at-risk of being unable to put food on the table every day,” said Congressman Kim. “I am proud to introduce this bipartisan legislation to make common-sense upgrades to EBT cards that will protect Americans’ SNAP benefits from everyday threats.”

“We must ensure families who rely on SNAP get the support they need – and that means we must ensure there are adequate safeguards in place to protect those benefits from cybersecurity threats,” said Congressman Lawler. “To that end, I’m proud to join my colleague Rep. Kim along with Senators Wyden and Fetterman in introducing the bipartisan, bicameral Enhanced Cybersecurity for SNAP Act. This legislation will go a long way to ensuring that those who need this assistance are the ones receiving it, not the fraudsters who prey on our most vulnerable.”

“There’s no excuse for this two-tier system, where families in need are stuck with outdated, easily hackable technology while folks with credit and ATM cards are better protected. Inaction is not good enough for families, not when it can be the difference between a family in need having food for dinner or going hungry,” said Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR).

“SNAP is a critical lifeline for nearly 2 million Pennsylvanians — we must do everything we can to protect it. It’s despicable that thieves are targeting vulnerable hungry families with cyber-crime scams. We can’t let families go hungry because of bad faith actors,” said Senator John Fetterman (D-PA). “As Chair of the Senate Agriculture Subcommittee on Nutrition, I am committed to doing everything in my power to protect and expand SNAP benefits and make sure American families get fed no matter what. In addition to this bill, I’ve also introduced the Fairness for Victims of SNAP Skimming Act to give state SNAP agencies more authority to reimburse SNAP recipients of benefits stolen by skimming. I am proud to work across the aisle on this bipartisan, bicameral bill to modernize SNAP and stop criminals from stealing critical food assistance from working families.”

“SNAP is supposed to help the person who is food insecure,” said Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA). “It is not supposed to help crooks who steal these benefits. This fights the crooks while preserving the benefits for those most in need.”

The Enhanced Cybersecurity for SNAP Act would modernize EBT cards to ensure benefits are adequately protected from common cybersecurity threats. The bill would specifically:

  • Require USDA to issue updated regulations requiring EBT cards to feature anti-fraud technology capable of preventing cloning, phishing, and skimming. These regulations will be updated every five years and must keep pace with the security of credit and debit cards.
  • Require USDA to operate a grant program providing funds for upgraded chip-capable payment machines to small grocery stores in food deserts, farmers markets, and farm-to-consumer programs.
  • Utilizing USDA funding, states will begin issuing chip-enabled EBT cards within two years of the adoption of the new regulations. Within four years, states will no longer be able to issue new EBT cards containing a magnetic stripe. Within five years, states will have to reissue all existing EBT cards containing a magnetic stripe as chip-only cards.
  • Require states to provide individuals and families with no-fee replacements of EBT cards, reimbursing them for the stolen funds, in three days or less, if their card is stolen, cloned by fraudsters, or malfunctioning.
  • Require States to offer multiple accessible, reliable, and mobile-friendly user interfaces, such as a smartphone app or online web portal, for families to manage their EBT account.

The Enhanced Cybersecurity for SNAP Act is endorsed by Food Research & Action Center (FRAC), Hunger Free America, MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger, Bread for the World, American Heart Association, Propel, Secure Tech Alliance (STA), Higher Learning Advocates, Code for America, R Street Institute, Massachusetts Law Reform Institute (MLRI), Oregon Food Bank, Feeding Texas, Hunger Free NJ, FoodBank of South Jersey, Fulfill, Food Lifeline, Northwest Harvest, Hunger Solutions New York.

“SNAP benefit theft is a serious and growing problem that hurts the families who need assistance most. This legislation will enable states to safeguard the integrity of the program while ensuring that households relying on SNAP are able to access their essential nutrition benefits. Hunger Free New Jersey applauds Representative Kim for his commitment to addressing this issue and protecting our most vulnerable families and seniors,” said Lisa Pitz, Director of Hunger Free New Jersey.

The full text of the bill can be found here. This bill is the House companion to the Enhanced Cybersecurity for SNAP Act of 2024 which was introduced in the Senate today by Senators Ron Wyden (D-OR), Bill Cassidy (R-LA), and John Fetterman (D-PA).

Congressman Kim has been a leader on hunger issues in Congress, introducing the Summer Meals REACH Act to expand children’s access to nutrition assistance over the summer and helping pass the Keep Kids Fed Act into law and voting to increase SNAP benefits and other programs through the CARES Act and American Rescue Plan to help ensure working New Jersey families can put food on the table. He also advocated and helped secure funding for the White House Conference on Hunger, which he attended in September of 2022.

Congressman Kim is the Ranking Member on the Military Personnel Subcommittee, and a member of the House Armed Services Committee, the Foreign Affairs Committee, and the House Select Committee on Strategic Competition between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party. Former Congressman Rush Holt Endorses Andy Kim for U.S. Senate, Highlights Record of Service and Delivering for NJ

MOORESTOWN N.J. – Today, Congressman Andy Kim announced he has received the endorsement of former New Jersey Congressman Rush Holt (NJ-12) in his bid to become the next U.S. Senator from New Jersey.

“I’m honored to have the support of Congressman Holt as we work to restore integrity and make sure people have a voice in our politics and in our Senate,” said Congressman Andy Kim. “Rush knows what it means to win tough races, and he knows the importance of making sure that we turnout Democrats and sway Independents in November. I’m proud to have him by my side and with our campaign for change.”

“Andy Kim has earned this seat,” said former Congressman Rush Holt. “We all know he brings the kind of highly principled public service for the people that New Jersey wants. Andy has proven he can appeal widely to voters and build strong coalitions needed to help get Democrats elected across the state in November and beyond. I endorse Andy strongly.”

Holt represented New Jersey’s 12th congressional district, which included areas of Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Somerset, and Union counties, from 1999 until 2015. He was one of only two physicists to serve in Congress during his tenure, and after his time in Congress, went on to serve as chief executive officer of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and executive publisher of the Science.

First elected to Congress in 2018 at the age of 36, three-term Congressman Andy Kim is one of the younger members to serve in Congress and is the first Asian American elected to federal office from New Jersey. Congressman Andy Kim Receives Backing from Council for a Livable World for His National Security Experience

MOORESTOWN N.J. –  Today, Congressman Andy Kim announced the endorsement of the Council for a Livable World (CLW) in his race for U.S. Senate. A nonpartisan nonprofit organization, CLW was founded by Manhattan Project scientist Leo Szilard and promotes policies to reduce and eventually eliminate nuclear weapons while working to minimize the risk of war.

“These are dangerous times with wars and conflicts escalating and dictators and authoritarian leaders grabbing power. As a former national security official, I will be a strong leader, ready on day 1 in the Senate to help our nation navigate through these complex challenges,” said Congressman Andy Kim. “I am honored that the Council for a Livable World has chosen to endorse me and work with me to make the world a safer, more secure place for future generations.”

“Council for a Livable World has proudly endorsed Congressman Andy Kim in each of his House campaigns and we are pleased to endorse him in his Senate bid because of his vast national security experience and stellar record,” said former Congressman John Tierney, Executive Director of Council for a Livable World. “In the House, Congressman Kim has a perfect record on our issues this Congress, voting to retire an unnecessary and massive new nuclear warhead, prohibit funding for the unnecessary production of the plutonium pits that go inside nuclear weapons, and stop funding for the Pentagon’s unbudgeted wish list items. His career of public service in the State Department, Pentagon and National Security Council makes him a leading voice in the House on critical national security issues and we are confident he will be a champion for nuclear arms control, smart Pentagon spending and a diplomacy-first foreign policy in the Senate.”

Congressman Kim has been a leader in Congress on national security and foreign policy, serving on the House Armed Services and House Foreign Affairs Committees, as well as the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the U.S. and the Chinese Communist Party. He has also served as a co-chair of the House Democratic Caucus National Security Task Force.

During his time in Congress, Kim has been a champion for denuclearization, focusing much of his efforts on decreasing nuclear tension on the Korean Peninsula. Most recently he introduced a resolution that calls for close coordination to achieve the denuclearization of North Korea. Earlier in his tenure in Congress, Andy sent a letter to the Trump administration urging them not to block South Korea’s efforts to engage in cross-border business ventures that were an attempt to build trust and facilitate progress towards denuclearization of the peninsula.

MOORESTOWN N.J. – Today, a Monmouth University poll showed that Congressman Andy Kim holds a massive advantage over First Lady Tammy Murphy with Democratic voters going into June’s primary election, and would be the strongest Democrat to hold the Senate seat with a large lead with Independent voters going into November’s general election.

“Holding the Senate majority is vital. We cannot take any chances here in NJ,” said Congressman Kim. “Today’s Monmouth Poll shows that the campaign we’re building is the strongest in the state and will help other Democrats up and down the ballot so we don’t just keep the Senate, but retake the House and win races across New Jersey.”

The poll, which is found here, highlights the following advantages for Kim:

Kim holds a big advantage with Democratic voters

  • Kim favorable/unfavorable: 48% – 2% (+46)
  • Murphy favorable/unfavorable: 24%-13% (+11)

Kim seen as more favorable by Democratic women voters

  • Kim favorable/unfavorable: 42% – 2% (+40)
  • Murphy favorable/unfavorable: 26% – 9% (+17)

Kim as seen as more favorable with Democratic men, while Murphy struggles to break even

  • Kim favorable/unfavorable: 57% – 1% (+56)
  • Murphy favorable/unfavorable: 21% – 20% (+1)

Kim seen as more favorable in North Jersey

  • Kim favorable/unfavorable: 37% – 2% (+35)
  • Murphy favorable/unfavorable: 22% – 12% (+10)

Murphy underwater with all voters going into November

  • Murphy favorable/unfavorable: 14%-26% (-12)

A majority of Independent voters say they will not vote for Murphy in November

“Currently, a larger number of independents say they will not vote for Murphy (51%) than say the same about Kim (33%), Serrano Glassner (30%), or Bashaw (30%).”

Congressman Andy Kim Announces Endorsement from Mercer County Democratic Progressive Caucus

앤디 김 하원의원, 머서 카운티 민주당 진보 간부회의 지지 발표.. (영문)

MOORESTOWN N.J. –  Today, Congressman Andy Kim announced the endorsement of the Mercer County Democratic Progressive Caucus (MCDPC). This endorsement comes on the heels of winning both Sussex and Warren County conventions this past weekend and roughly one week before Mercer County delegates, including members of MCDPC, will head to the voting booth for their county convention.

“I’m grateful to the Mercer County Democratic Progressive Caucus for endorsing me. I’m proud to have been a strong voice for progressive values in the House and look forward to taking that fight to the Senate,” said Congressman Andy Kim.

“I am thrilled to be able to cast a vote for Andy at the Mercer Convention because he has been a great advocate for the issues I am most concerned about,” said MCDPC Vice Chair Beth Morgan. “As a senior citizen, I am concerned about the cost of healthcare – he’s been proactive on such things as capping insulin prices and reining in the cost of life saving drugs. As a progressive, I’ve been concerned for years about the New Jersey “county line,” whereby party elites choose who will get favorable placement on the ballot. Andy has come out against the unfair advantage this confers on certain candidates to the extent that he has even instigated a lawsuit against this practice.”

A member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, Andy Kim has been a fierce advocate for progressive policies and has been a champion of progressive values. Following the 2022 Dobbs decision, Kim supported and voted for the Women’s Health Protection Act, the Ensuring Women’s Right to Reproductive Freedom Act, and the Right to Contraception Act. Also in 2022, Andy voted to pass the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) that finally allowed Medicare to negotiate down the cost of prescription drugs, capped insulin costs for seniors on Medicare at $35 per month, and included Andy’s co-written bill that will make sure no senior on Medicare pays more than $2,000 per year for prescription drugs; the IRA also does more to combat climate change than any bill in history.

Congressman Andy Kim Wins Warren County Convention with 65 Point Margin, Brings Momentum into Tomorrow’s Bergen Convention

앤디 김 의원 워렌 카운티에서 65포인트 차로 승리, 내일 버겐 전당대회로 모멘텀 이어가.. (영문)

HACKETTSTOWN N.J. – Today, Congressman Andy Kim delivered yet another win for his grassroots campaign, this time in Warren County. Congressman Kim won over 80% of the vote and won by 65 points over First Lady Tammy Murphy after delegates voted via secret paper ballot between all Democratic primary candidates declared for U.S. Senate.

This win, along with victories in Monmouth, Burlington, Hunterdon, and Sussex Counties which also occurred by secret ballot, shows that Kim wins when political elites are unable to use pressure tactics to shut down the grassroots energy that Congressman Kim has continued to build with rank-and-file Democrats, and proves that he has the support of Democrats when they are able to freely vote without worry of retribution. He now looks to take this momentum to the Bergen County convention tomorrow.

“It is so important for Democrats to show up and have their voices heard all across the state, especially in those areas that are traditionally Republican strongholds,” said Congressman Andy Kim. “Thanks to everyone who turned out and voted this afternoon! The energy we saw today will help us take our grassroots momentum through June 4th and into November.”

Murphy’s Attempts to Stack the Deck Fail Against Kim’s Grassroots Momentum

MOORESTOWN N.J. – This morning, a day after Congressman Andy Kim’s fourth Democratic county convention win in a row in which delegates voted by secret ballot for their voice, New Jersey voters woke up to another series of headlines showing that First Lady Tammy Murphy’s attempts to use the rigged machinery of New Jersey politics to obtain a U.S. Senate seat are failing against Kim’s grassroots momentum.

These headlines reinforce months of reporting of Murphy’s failure to connect with New Jersey Democratic voters, her constant defense of rigged political systems and her close friends, Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump.

Star Ledger: Fear and loathing in New Jersey. U.S. Senate race featuring governor’s wife at a boiling point.

With a new narrative that the seemingly invincible first lady is in for a real race, there is real fear Gov. Murphy and party leaders could punish those who openly support Kim over his wife, Democrats told NJ Advance Media, which interviewed three dozen local officials, delegates, political insiders, and experts over the past three frenetic weeks.

One Monmouth County Democratic official who backed Kim said it “feels like we’re talking about the mafia.”

Veteran environmentalist Jeff Tittel agrees. “I’ve heard people say: This is like Tony Soprano having a sitdown. You don’t know if you’re be gonna hugged or shot,” joked Tittel, a longtime critic of the Murphy administration. “Trenton is really like fear city.” “But underneath, there is this anger and rebellion boiling more toward the surface.”

Several officials and party delegates declined to speak on the record, saying they were nervous the governor or party may find out.

Former U.S. Rep. Tom Malinowski, who has endorsed Kim, said the party changed “and the party leaders didn’t notice” after the blue wave of 2018, when he, Kim, and several other Democrats were swept into office in then-President Donald Trump’s first midterms.

“Andy is appealing to the Democratic party as it currently exists in New Jersey,” he said. “The first lady is running a race designed to appeal to the party as it existed 10 years ago.”

Philadelphia Inquirer: Andy Kim files suit challenging ‘the line’ in N.J. Senate race against Tammy Murphy

Allegations that Gov. Phil Murphy and the first lady are using their considerable power to line up endorsements in the counties, including the ones where the party bosses decide ballot position without a convention, have dominated the race.

Recently, a photo surfaced of the Murphys with Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump in a restaurant in July. Asked whether they were personal friends of hers, the first lady rolled her eyes.

“It is hard to explain to people outside of New Jersey how people can be ahead 20 points in the polls and still be the underdog.” It’s hard to explain that to people inside New Jersey. Still, Kim is betting his chances on people rebelling against the way things have always been done. Or a federal judge doing it for them.

“Rank-and-file Democrats, they don’t go along with it,” Kim said. “They want to make sure we have an actual democracy.”

Terry Callahan, 65, of Somerset County, said the fairness issue is resonating. “They thought it was going to be a slam dunk for Tammy,” said Callahan. “This is why people are so fired up about Andy Kim and the whole race. They keep trying to put the finger on the scale.”

Star Ledger (Opinion): It was a bad, bad month for the Murphys

When you’ve lost the American Prospect, you’ve lost the progressive movement. That’s the situation the Murphy family is in after the shenanigans of the past week.

Kim is the dream candidate for Democrats. He was educated at Oxford and went on to do State Department work in places like Afghanistan. He’s the kind of candidate who appeals to suburban liberals in counties like the Murphys’ county of Monmouth. Still, few expected that Kim would win the Monmouth County line by a landslide at the county Democratic Convention last month.

Kim also has a double-digit lead in head-to-head polls against Murphy. At this point, it looks like Tammy Murphy’s only hope is that those urban machines come through for her.

As recently as Jan. 30, New York Magazine put out a piece headlined “Tammy Murphy and the Nepo State: She’s leveraging her husband’s power as governor of New Jersey to lock up a Senate bid. She appears unstoppable.” What a difference a month makes. Now her campaign looks to be unstartable.

Big Double Digit Win for Congressman Andy Kim in Sussex County, Sweeps First Four

STANHOPE N.J. – Today, Congressman Andy Kim won his 4th convention in a row, this time in Sussex County. Sussex delegates showed up in force for Andy, resulting in him winning 57% of the vote over First Lady Tammy Murphy. Delegates voted secretly via paper ballots between all Democratic primary candidates declared for U.S. Senate.

This win, along with victories in Monmouth, Burlington, and Hunterdon Counties, shows the power of grassroots energy and the momentum it has created for Democrats to show up and vote their conscience. He will participate in Warren County’s convention next, which will take place tomorrow.

“Thank you to all the Sussex County delegates who attended today and took on the awesome responsibility of choosing who should represent them in such an important role like U.S. Senator, ” said Congressman Andy Kim. “This morning was another example of the energy we feel across the state when people get a real choice in their democracy. We need to have more open conventions with secret ballots where people are free to vote without pressure or intimidation. I can’t thank Sussex County enough for placing their trust in me as we look towards the June 4th Primary.”
