Congressman Andy Kim, Sue Altman, and End Citizens United Hold Grassroots Roundtable; Discuss how to Combat Big Money, Restore Trust in Politics

BRIDGEWATER N.J. – Yesterday, Congressman Andy Kim joined NJ-07 congressional candidate Sue Altman, President of End Citizens United and Let America Vote, Tiffany Muller, and a group of New Jersey grassroots activists to discuss ways to reform politics in New Jersey and what can be done at the grassroots level and beyond to make sure the power stays with the people, not just the well-off and well-connected. Highlights of the roundtable can be found here.

“Our politics need to change. So many of us are fed up with the corruption and money-driven special interest that benefits the well-off and the well-connected,” said Congressman Andy Kim. “This needs to stop. We are fighting for change here in standing up against the broken machine politics in NJ and working to build a better politics across our nation.”

“Times are changing in New Jersey. I was proud to join Congressman Kim, ECU’s Tiffany Muller, and our grassroots supporters to discuss the challenges facing our democracy,” said Sue Altman, Democratic candidate for New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District. “Fortunately, our grassroots here in NJ are among the most sophisticated, tough, and well-organized in the country. We are sick of corrupt politicians using their power to further their own interests. This November, we are going to flip NJ-07 and take back the House while ensuring Andy Kim gets into the Senate. We have an exciting opportunity to bring a new 1-2 punch against corruption and for democracy to Washington, and ECU will be a key partner to ensure we win that fight!”

“New Jersey has been the face of political corruption and anti-democratic machine politics that protects the well-connected while undercutting the voice of the people,” said End Citizens United // Let America Vote President Tiffany Muller. “Thankfully, we’re beginning to see a new era of grassroots energy supporting champions of democracy, like Congressman Andy Kim and Sue Altman, who are fighting to root out corruption, unrig the system, and protect the voice and vote of every American.”

Congressman Andy Kim is a three-term Member of Congress first elected in 2018 and is the first Asian American elected to federal office from New Jersey. In 2018 and 2020, Andy defeated two self-funding millionaires in a district carried by former President Trump, and in 2022 Kim defeated his third self-funding millionaire opponent by 12 points.

In his three terms in Congress, Andy has worked hard to lower costs for New Jersey families and help support small businesses through challenging times. Andy has also been a leading champion in fighting against corruption in our broken politics.
