‘Gun Violence Archive’의 집계에 따르면 최근 두 달간(2023.1.1~2023.2.21) 미 전역에서 발생한 대규모 총격사건은 81건에 달합니다.
최근 워싱턴주를 비롯한 미국 전역에서 불특정 다수를 대상으로 하는 무차별 총기난사 사건이 자주 발생하고 있습니다. 상당수 총기난사 사건은 특별한 사전 징후가 없이 발생하므로 미국 내 체류 중인 재외국민 및 미국에 거주하는 한국인 여러분께서는 유사 범죄발생 등에 대비하여 관련 지침을 숙지하는 등 신변에 각별히 유의하시기 바랍니다.
총기난사 사건 발생시에는 다음과 같이 행동하여 안전을 확보한 후, 즉시 911에 신고하여 도움을 받으십시오.
- 총기 난사시 신속히 엎드린 후 주변 동정을 조심스럽게 살핀다.
- 안전하게 현장을 탈출할 수 있으면 탈출하되, 안전한 탈출이 어려운 경우 가까운 곳에 크고 단단한 벽 등 총격 방어가 가능한 장소가 있으면 그 곳으로 은신한다.
- 안전한 장소로 피하기 위해 갑자기 일어나면 표적이 될 수 있으므로 낮은 포복으로 이동하되, 이동 및 은신 중에는 최대한 조용히 하고 휴대전화가 울리지 않도록 한다.

Actions to Take in the Event of a Mass Shooting Terror Attack
According to the Gun Violence Archive, there have been 81 mass shootings in the United States in the past two months (January 1 to February 21, 2023), occurring throughout the country, including in Washington State.
Indiscriminate gun violence targeting unsuspecting victims has become increasingly common in the United States. Since many of these incidents occur without any prior warning signs, Korean nationals living in the US or visiting should take extra precautions, including familiarizing themselves with relevant guidelines to prepare for similar criminal incidents.
In the event of a mass shooting, please take the following steps to secure your safety and immediately call 911 for assistance:
Quickly take cover and assess your surroundings.
If you can safely evacuate, do so, but if escape is not possible, seek shelter in a nearby area with a sturdy and secure barrier for protection against gunshots.
Move quickly and quietly in a crouched position to avoid becoming a target, and make sure your cell phone is silenced during the evacuation and sheltering process.
